Product Information
Why do cells stop growing when they reach a certain size? The answer is easy to see with this hands-on lab. Students make three different-sized cell models from a block of agar and measure the extent of diffusion for each.
Calculating the surface area to volume ratio shows that the largest cell demonstrates the least efficient diffusion, a known trigger for cell division.
Includes materials for seven student groups and complete instructions featuring a teacher’s guide and a reproducible student guide with glossary, background information, step-by-step procedures, and hand-in worksheets.
