Product Information

Simulate the evolution of cells by creating a primordial “soup” of coacervates right in your classroom. Coacervates are liquid colloidal suspensions of organic compounds that exhibit properties similar to living cells. Students prepare, test, and stain suspensions and can observe changes in the outer membrane, size and structure of the coacervate as it reacts to the physical and chemical conditions of its environment. Includes materials for seven student groups, a teacher’s guide with answers, reproducible student guides, background information, step-by-step procedures and hand-in worksheets. Note: A compound microscope is required but not included.
