Product Information

Aligned with AP Chemistry Lab #9

When the formulas of products in a chemical equation cannot be balanced, it is possible to use experimental measurements to find the mole ratios. In this experiment, the total number of moles of reactants is kept constant while each reactant is varied. Students measure the temperature change on each ratio until the optimum ratio, one which consumes the greatest amount of reactants and produces the greatest amount of product in the form of heat, is found. The experiment can be completed in less than 45 minutes and comes with enough materials for 15 setups.

Chemical Contents:
Potassium Iodide
Sodium Hydroxide
Sodium Sulfite
Sodiuim Thiosulfate
Bleach

Additional Materials Required:
Thermometers
50 mL Beakers
400 mL Beakers
10 mL and 50 mL Graduated Cylinders
Styrofoam Cups
