Develop hands-on experience with stoichiometry by determining the percentage of water in a metal salt hydrate. Practice quantitative laboratory methods by starting with a known amount of copper sulfate and heating it until all the water and hydrates are removed. By comparing the mass of the starting and ending material, the mass of evaporated water and the percentage of water in the hydrate will be calculated.
