This apparatus, which consists of a polystyrene foam ball suspended on a balance arm and mounted on a PVC stand, provides for a simple yet effective demonstration of the buoyancy of air. Place the apparatus inside a vacuum jar and observe the balance inclination. As you evacuate the air pressure out of the vacuum, the buoyancy force then decreases, causing the balance arm to slope downwards. Required but not included are a vacuum pump and vacuum bell with plate.
