Investigate how carbon dioxide is created and explore the incredible uses of this gas, which is heavier than air. To demonstrate the mass of the gas a simple arm balance is used. A paper bag is then taped to one end of a ruler which is balanced on a pivot stand. Mix the chemicals in the pitcher and pour the carbon dioxide into the bag. Even though students can not see it, the balance arms beings to rotate as the heaver carbon dioxide fills the bag. An additional demonstration uses a 2.5 foot long trough with six candles on the bottom. When carbon dioxide is poured down the trough, the candles are extinguished one by one. Includes a trough, six candles, citric acid, baking soda, pitcher, knife edge clamp, support balance, and instructions. A meterstick is required, but not included.
