Demonstrate the distinct behavior of centripetal force with this fun and enlightening activity. A glowing light stick is attached to a spring and hooked inside an open-ended tube. When the tube is tied to a string and swung in a circular motion, the light stick emerges, allowing students to witness the changes in force at various points on the circle. When the apparatus is swung in a horizontal circle, a consistent light pattern will be apparent; yet when swung vertically, more light will be seen at the bottommost point of the circular path.
