Constructed of flexible vinyl and painted hardwood dowels, the model can be easily twisted to form the Watson and Crick double helix configuration.

The sides of the ladder alternate in black and white and represent the deoxyribose and phosphates; the rungs are multicolored and represent nitrogenous bases. At full length the ladder measures 101 cm and can be coiled for storage.
