If only the beach were like this!
When mixed with water, this brightly colored, specially treated &"hydrophobic&" sand stays absolutely dry. Reach into a beakerful of this sand and water, and you'll still pull out a handful of dry sand! Not only is hydrophobic sand fun to use, it's educational too.
Kit comes with 1 lb. of sand in a plastic jar and a booklet containing 7 experiments to demonstrate concepts of the hydrophobic effect (felt by many scientists to be essential to the formation of biological membranes), surface tension, solubility, &"nonsolvent&" properties of water, and reversed-phase liquid chromatography.
