Aligned with AP Chemistry Lab #22When a solution of an alkyl halide in an anhydrous solvent and an anoxic environment is allowed to stand over metallic magnesium, a vigorous reaction occurs that results in the formation of the Grignard reagent. Once the Grignard reagent is prepared it can be used to prepare the target compound, in this case a carboxylic acid. This experiment can be completed in 90 minutes and comes with enough materials for 15 setups. The Pyrex Micro-Organic Chemistry set or Combo-Still is required, available separately.
