ScholAR Determination of the Properties of Buffer Solutions Lab Activity
|
Product Information
Aligned with AP Chemistry Lab #3Any aqueous solution that contains a mixture of either a weak acid and its salt, or a weak base and its salt, behaves as a buffer solution that then resists changes in pH when other solutions are added to it. Solutions of acid salts are also buffer solutions. In this experiment, you will prepare three buffer solutions having different pH values and show that the pH of these solutions does not change significantly when small amounts of acids and bases are added. The experiment also demonstrates that when the same amounts of acids and bases are added to water and to a non-buffer solution such as a NaCl solution, the pH changes are significant. The experimental technique used to study pH changes in this activity is the observation of colors change on the universal indicator papers dipped into the solutions. Includes materials for 15 setups. Chemical Contents: Acetic Acid , Glacial Sodium Acetate Sodium Hydroxide Additional materials required: 250mL Volumetric flasks 50mL Beakers 100mL Graduate Cylinders pH Meter
