Fascinating and informative, this unique experiment reveals all components of electric motors and makes each clearly visible. As students pass an electric current through an electrolyte solution, they can actually see the solution rotate. Due to the magnetic field and pointer added to this apparatus to deflect ions, the entire solution visibly rotates. For repeat experiments, you can easily change the current and direction of the magnetic field, then note the differing results. The experiment can also be easily conducted on an overhead projector. Developed by teacher, Alfred Guenther, this activity kit includes materials for eight student groups and detailed instructions. Grades 7–11.
