Longitudinal Wave Model
|
Product Information
This versatile model is designed to help students better understand the action of traveling longitudinal waves. The model has 22 particles that each exhibit simple harmonic motion about their equilibrium positions. Individual particles within compressions and rarefactions can be studied in detail. The particles oscillate with a constant 30° phase lag with respect to their neighbors. Two black clip-on markers are used to illustrate in-phase and out-of-phase relationships (every 12 and every 6 particles, respectively). Various aspects of the demonstration can be quantified with calculations involving propagation speed, wavelength and frequency. The sturdy plastic particles are mounted on a metal oscillator within a solid wood housing. With instructions.
