Product Information

Now you can easily perform Lord Kelvin’s famous electrostatics experiment right in your classroom. This large demonstration apparatus includes a water reservoir with tubing, droppers, brass rings, wire, two “catch cans,” and a lamp, all mounted on a 53 H x 25 W x 6 D cm wood base.

As the water flows through the droppers and rings and then into the catch cans, the droplets break apart, inducing an electrical current. The current travels up the wires to light a neon lamp placed at the juncture of the wires.

As the water continues to flow, the lamp flashes, corresponding with the negative resistance characteristics of the neon. This demonstrator is easy to set up and comes with everything you need, including instructions. Developed by Bruce Yeany. Grades 7-12. Size: 53cm H x 25cm W x 6cm
