Product Information

Collect and analyze water samples for microbial pollution kit. Students use the hanging slide and spread plate techniques to isolate microorganisms in water, then show how to reduce the microbial content of the water by using ordinary iodine solution. In addition, students test for coliform bacteria, spores and anaerobes.

Includes materials for 30 students: microscope slides, crystal violet stain, toothpicks, petri dishes, nutrient agar, test tubes, lactose broth with durham tubes, pipets, bleach, cotton swabs, iodine tincture, a marker, and a teacher’s guide with background information.

Grades 10–12.
