How They Work
Millipore’s membrane filters are thin cellulose discs that contain many pores of uniform size. As a liquid or gas is forced through the filter, only those particles that are smaller than the pores will pass through the filter; any particles that are too large for the pores to remain trapped on the surface. These particles can then be counted in order to determine the level of impurities in the original liquid or gas.
Measurements
A filter’s diameter is measured in millimeters (mm). The size of a filter’s pores is measured in millimeters, commonly referred to as microns (m).
Grids
The grid lines that appear on the 47mm filters do not alter the surface characteristics or pore structure of the filters. Millipore’s unique process for creating these lines ensures that microbes that land on a grid line or an intersection of grid lines are not inhibited from normal development.
How do you know if potentially harmful bacteria are living in your drinking water?
This economical package includes the basic hardware needed to conduct a variety of interesting and informative filtration tests. Let your students study microorganisms by trapping and culturing bacteria on the easy-to-use Millipore filters.
With one of these sets at each lab station, your students will have the tools they need to learn about the educational and practical benefits of modern filtration methods.
Includes: an autoclavable Sterifil Funnel and Hand Vacuum Assembly with 2-way vacuum valve, 20 petri dishes, stainless steel forceps, Swinnex filter set, an ampoule breaker and complete
instructions.
