In traditional plant growth experiments, students don’t often see the seed coat split or the roots emerge to turn into the soil. But, with this innovative kit, students can model the step-by-step process of germination, learn the function of each structure, and discover how seeds get the energy to grow. Ten seed pouches are included for students to unzip and pull out the primary root first and then the seed leaves. After they model the germination process, students will observe the process with real lima beans and tomato seeds. Developed by Peggy Dickerson, this kit includes materials for 10 student groups and the book, How a Seed Grows. An included teacher’s guide features reproducible worksheets and two levels of instructions aligned with the national standards for both grades K–2 and 3–4.
