Overhead or Tabletop Turntable
|
Product Information
This product, developed by college physics instructor John Koser, is used as a turntable for centripetal force demonstrations that the whole class can see. A clear disc with concentric circles is attached to a motor. Simply place the disc on an overhead projector, connect it to a variable DC power supply with the cross patch cords provided, and place small objects (such as coins) on top of the disc. As the disc rotates, the objects begin to slide. The resulting vectors can be drawn right onto the projected image on your blackboard or markerboard. Device can also be used as a tabletop model. The included instruction manual describes two activities: determining the direction of the force holding the object on the turntable, and measuring the coefficient of friction. Minor assembly required (using screwdriver and 1/8″ Allen wrench). Requires a variable DC power supply (0-12V) and an overhead projector, sold separately. Grades 8–12. Size: 26.7cm dia.
