Product Information
When light travels through any medium other than a vacuum, different colors travel at slightly different speeds. Essentially a recreation of Thomas Young's classical investigation into the nature of light, here a laser is shot through diffraction grating and through an acrylic box half-filled with water. The dots that appear on the strip of paper or screen behind the box clearly demonstrate the phenomena of constructive and destructive interference. Developed by John B. Johnston, Director of The Faraday Center. Grades 11-12. Includes: 1- 10" x 10" acrylic box, diffraction grating, and instructions. Laser required.
