The Drosophila, or fruit fly, is a common subject of genetic research. It is small, breeds very rapidly, and exhibits giant chromosomes in its salivary glands.
Biology teacher Susan Offner has developed a map of the Drosophila chromosomes that provide students with a way to see how the fruit fly genes are arranged. These maps show which genes are most involved in the physical traits that are monitored in classical genetic experiments.
