Product InformationThis unique hands-on exercise for karyotyping is used to analyze and determine certain genetic diseases. Students are introduced to the procedure of preparing chromosome spreads on microscope slides and cell staining procedures using HeLa cells which are human carcinoma cells immortalized by transformation. Because HeLa cells are transformed, variations in the number of chromosomes can be observed between cells upon microscopic examination.Includes materials for 10 slides — ready to use HeLa cells, eosin stain, methylene blue stain, mounting medium, slides, slide covers, transfer pipets, instructions.
