Developed through a partnership with the Department of Energy and Brookhaven National Laboratory, this ground-breaking experiment makes transformation possible for your students. The activity demonstrates how E. coli may be transformed to express the gene derived from the jellyfish, making the bacteria fluoresce right before your eyes. The GFP plasmid also codes for ampicillin resistance, allowing transformants to be selected for on antibiotic plates, while displaying its bright green phenotype.
