Product Information

Students determine the percentage of lime (CaCO3) in limestone samples by chemical analysis.
The samples they test include four types of limestone (chalk, fossiliferous, coquina, and common gray) which contain varying amounts of lime, and use this information to compare the usefulness and economic importance of the samples. Developed by Deb Hemler and Mary Sue Burns. Grades 11-12.

Includes materials for 30 students: quantitative filter paper, medium flow filter paper, limestone samples, funnels, ammonium hydroxide, ammonium oxalate, hydrochloric acid, methyl orange and instructions.
