Product Information
Here’s a sweet little lab by David Kelley that melts in the test tube, not in your hands!
In this set of lab experiments, students become food detectives to find out which dyes are used in various candies and drinks.
They prepare reference chromatograms using red, blue, yellow and green food coloring containing FD&C dyes, separate dyes from various drinks and candies (such as Kool-Aid™ and M&Ms™), identify the dyes using paper chromatography and identify an unknown using the same method. Who knew that sugar could be brain food! Grades 7–12.
Includes: chromatography paper, 50 plastic cups, yarn, aluminum foil, toothpicks, food coloring, red litmus paper, ammonia, vinegar, teacher’s guide and student worksheets.
