Make aspirin with no headaches! Using salicyclic acid and acetic anhydride, students make aspirin with no headaches and no hassles! They then calculate the percent yield of this reaction, determine the melting point of the synthesized aspirin and compare it to the melting point of pure laboratory grade aspirin. (Note: the aspirin produced is not for consumption not matter how badly you might need one by the end of the day!) Developed by Lisa Water. Grades 10-AP.
