Doppler Effect Apparatus
|
Product Information
This high-tech apparatus is specially designed to illustrate the Doppler Effect: the apparent change in the pitch of a sound as its source moves away from (lower frequency: lengthening sound waves) or towards (higher frequency: gaining sound waves) the listener. Students hold the handle and rotate the arm. The electronic buzzer at the end of the arm can be set to produce a continuous, one directional, or pulsating sound. Since the sound is electronically produced, the tone remains at a constant frequency. Students can easily hear the variation in pitch as the sound source approaches and recedes, and the different perceived pitch when the arm is rotated clockwise and counterclockwise. Orbit radius is 75 cm. Note: Requires a 9 V battery for operation.
