Product Information Used either as a demonstration or a hands-on lab, this kit enables you or your students to determine the molar mass of the metal magnesium. A known mass of magnesium is permitted to react with excess hydrochloric acid, and hydrogen is evolved. The volume of hydrogen is measured and from this value, the mass of a single magnesium atom can be easily calculated. Other metals, such as zinc, can also be used. Covers: determination of molar mass, stoichiometric ratios, ideal gas equation, pressure and partial pressure, and vapor pressure. Grades 10-12. Includes: graduated gas generateor and stopper, plastic tubing, gas collection cylinder and stopper, base, weighed magnesium ribbons, 1M HCl, bottle, demo mat, background material, instructions.
