Students develop an understanding of induced and programmed cell death and use cell cultures as an assay for toxicity of chemical agents. Mammalian cells are grown in culture and are pre-exposed to a toxin known as colchicine. The effect of this on cell morphology will be examined by comparing treated and untreated control samples. Includes: 6 ready to stain untreated HeLa cells, colchicine treated Hela Cells, immersion troughs, cell fixing agent, eosin stain, methylene blue stain, mounting medium, slide covers, transfer pipets, instructions. Required but not included: microscope with 400x magnification, forcep.
