Product Information

These GeoBlox models were developed for teaching some of the science concepts in the fifth grade science TEKS and can easily be assembled by upper elementary school students.
GeoBlox models provide students with their own three-dimensional display of the structures and systems being discussed in class. Because they can see these various structures in three dimensions, they tend to have an easier time understanding how these structures are formed. Models have been drawn without vertical exaggeration. For example, many textbook illustrations showing the reason for the seasons use an oblique three-dimensional diagram that shows the Earth-Sun system in perspective from a point of view about 30 degrees above the orbital plane. The result is that students often misinterpret this to mean that different seasons are caused by the varying distance between the Earth and the Sun. The GeoBlox Earth-Sun system model provides students with a much more accurate display of seasonal change because it is in three-dimensions and is not distorted. They quickly see that the Earth's distance from the Sun does not change and learn the real reason for seasons.
Models illustrate concepts of change occurring in cycles, evolution, cause and effect, and Earth science processes. Model Patterns can be copied onto cardstock, colored using colored pencils, cut out using an X-acto knife or scissors, then glued together. Model patterns can also be copies on an overhead transparency, then enlarged onto poster board for permanent classroom display. Models include Water Cycle, Fish Evolution, Cavern Formation, Barchan Dune Erosion and Deposition, and 23 others.
The models and activities in this book cover TEKS 5.6 A,B, 5.9 A,B,C, 5.11 A,B, 5.12 A,B,C. A list of applicable TEKS and instructions for using the models are included.
