Physical Science Series: Temperature and Heat (VHS)

Product Information
Beginning with an exciting car chase filmed from a police helicopter, this program puts the pedal to the metal as it roars into an examination of heat, temperature and molecular movement. Demonstrates various practical uses of heat in infrared detection and shows how thermometers are made. Following this program, students should be able to describe how hot and cold objects look different through a thermal imaging camera, explain the difference between a comparative measurement and one that uses a standard scale, explain how air and liquid thermometers work in terms of particle theory, explain how heat energy moves from a hot object to a cooler one in terms of the particle theory, and explain why a larger mass of material contains more heat energy than a smaller mass at the same temperature. Temperature and Heat is part of the five program Physical Science Series which uses real life applications, investigations and interactive questions, models and animations, humorous skits, historical sketches, and filmed experiments to illuminate the scientific concepts being covered. Each program uses standards aligned lessons that will fit all physical science curricula from grades 5 to 9. Young host-narrators make the presentations more interesting to students. Runtime: 19 minutes.
