This demonstrator provides a unique way to discuss centrifugal force. Normally, when a platform is made to spin, we expect that objects attached to the platform experience an inertial force which pushes them away from the center of the platform. This is not what appears to happen to the flames on the Rotating Candle Demonstrator. Instead, the flames actually tip inward toward the center! The demonstrator is also useful in discussing the density of air as it varies with temperature. The demonstrator consists of a platform attached to a shaft via a bearing. The shaft is mounted to a large "A" shaped base. On the platform, at each end, is a candle holder. Also supplied are a pair of candles, two chimneys to place over the candles, and operating instructions.
