Product Information

Using the scientific method, students observe four mutant strains of Drosophila, two of which are phenotypically similar for eye color. They will then test whether or not they have similar genotypes by using thin layer chromotography to separate the eye pigments of each mutant.

The eye pigments have fluorescent properties that produce visually gripping effects. By applying UV light, the individual color pigments composing the mutants' eye color become visible and students are able to compare and contrast the resultant chromatograms to draw conclusions about the genotypic-phenotypic relationship.

It includes a teacher’s guide, student copymaster, and materials for six setups. A UV illuminator is required but not included.

Note: a coupon is included for perishable materials. Redeem by mail, fax, phone, or email.
