Production of a Bioinsecticide Lab
|
Product Information
During sporulation, Bacillus thuringiensis produces an insecticidal crystalline deposit that is innocuous to vertebrates. In this fermentation lab activity, students explore this real-world application of biotechnology by producing a safe, commercially-viable bioinsecticide to be used against mosquito larvae, then conducting a bioassay to test its effectiveness. Includes: materials for two fermentation runs; teacher’s guide; student study and analyst copymasters with background information, time requirements, instructions, data tables for analysis, and study questions. Fermentation system is required, available separately.
