Product Information

During sporulation, Bacillus thuringiensis produces an insecticidal crystalline deposit that is innocuous to vertebrates. In this fermentation lab activity, students explore this real-world application of biotechnology by producing a safe, commercially-viable bioinsecticide to be used against mosquito larvae, then conducting a bioassay to test its effectiveness.
