Originating with Fr. Pietro Angelo Secchi, a monk and astrophysicist, to measure transparency in the Mediterranean Sea, these disks are standard issue for anyone seeking to determine turbidity or degree of visibility in natural waters.
The calibrated 20cm diameter disk has a stretch-resistant line marked every half meter and at every meter up to 20 meters.
