Watch Cells Shrink and Student Interest Grow
Cells shrink before your eyes to 1/3 their size. Use this fun activity to colorfully illustrate the components of plant and animal cells.
Using colored pencils or markers, students color in a cell, created from a template, on the Shrinky Dinks plastic sheets. While they decorate their cell, they can identify and describe the different organelles.
Once complete, the Shrinky Dinks bake in an oven and dramatically reduce in size. The finished product is a fun, lasting reminder of cell structure that can be used as a keychain or backpack zipper tag.
With materials for 30 students, the kit includes 15 sheets of Shrinky Dink Plastics, 30 plastic tag hangers, plant cell template, animal cell template, cell structure diagram, and teacher’s notes.
