In this realistic experiment, students will perform an ELISA test to detect HIV infection using methods commonly performed in biomedical laboratories. Working with simulated antibodies from an imaginary patient, students will coat micotiter plate wells with a simulated HIV antigen and then test the donor serum for anti-HIV antibodies. Kit includes instructions, serum samples, antigens and antibodies, solutions, microtiter plates, pipettes and micro test tubes.
Coupon is included for perishable materials. Requires the use of a 37°C incubation oven, automatic micropipettes with tips, pipette pumps, laboratory glassware, and distilled or deionized water, not included. Materials supplied for 10 student groups. Time required: 60 minutes
