Product Information
In this lab, students synthesize esters, the organic compounds responsible for artificial flavors.Students produce ethyl acetate; build a molecular model of ethyl acetate; then synthesize methyl salicylate (oil of wintergreen) and amyl acetate (banana oil). The four activities in this lab will help students bridge the gap between important organic chemical concepts and practical, real-world applications. Includes: 1 drop controlled btl calcium acetate solution; 2 drop controlled btls each methanol, amyl alcohol, and dilute sulfuric acid; 2 btls each glacial acetic acid and salicylic acid; 3 btls ethanol; 1 vial drierite; 12 test tubes; 12 calibrated tubes; 12 metal pots; 1 set molecular model parts (336 pieces in all!); 50 student worksheets and guides; 1 instruction manual with MSDS. reading river sediments:
