In this lab acetylsalicylic acid, the active ingredient in aspirin, will be synthesized from salicylic acid and acetic anhydride. This acetylsalicylic acid will then be purified by recrystallization. Spectrophotometry will also be used to analyze known concentrations of salicylic acid, and determine the purity of acetylsalicylic acid that is made.

Salicylic Acid
Sulfuric Acid, 18.5 M Solution
