Product Information
In this activity, students will gain an understanding of the mechanism of plate tectonics and sea floor spreading. Students will first investigate the magnetism of rocks and minerals as well as a bar magnet. Then, they will use a PASCO magnetic field sensor to measure the simulated magnetism of the bands of rock on an ocean floor, then predict the position of a mid-ocean ridge on a map. This activity can be completed in two 50-minute lab sessions. Includes instructions. Requires one sensor and one USB Link or one Xplorer Datalogger for each group of students. If your computer does not have 2 USB ports, then you will need a USB 4-Port Hub.
