Changes in the proximity of the moon can have a dramatic effect here on Earth.

Geography teacher David S. Worrall designed this overhead demonstrator for use in teaching about tides and how their characteristics are related to the position of the moon.

You can use your overhead projector to illustrate a summertime tidal pattern when both the moon and the sun have a northerly declination. By manipulating the moon and landmass portion of the model, students can watch how landmasses experience four different types of tidal action. From these observations, your students can then construct simple tide table graphs. Grades 8-11.

Includes: teacher’s manual discussing different uses for the tidal model as well as other tidal effects such as tidal currents, spring and neap tides, apogean and perigean tides, tidal waves and tidal bores.
