Product Information
With this lab, developed by Michael Sulzinski, Ph.D., students isolate TMV in cigarette tobacco then inoculate healthy bean plants (
P. vulgaris) with it.
This activity uses a hypersensitive response with Tobacco Mosaic Virus to detect the virus in cigarette tobacco, and to demonstrate inhibitory properties of milk against virus infection.
Includes materials for 50 student groups: diatomaceous earth, glass stirring rods, sterile applicators, funnels, cheesecloth, powdered milk, phosphate buffer, pinto bean seeds, pots, soil, instructions.
