Investigate transformation, a basic principle of genetic engineering, with this lab activity
Students investigate one mechanism of genetic exchange by inserting the plasmid pUC8, which carries the gene for antibiotic resistance to ampicillin and tetracycline, into competent, wild-type E. coli cells.
This kit contains enough materials for a class of 32 students in 8 lab groups and is recommended for AP Biology Lab Activity 6a.
Includes: 200mL Luria Agar, 8 disposable inoculating loops, pk/10 bacti-spreaders, pk/30 micropipets, pk/50 petri dishes, 16 microfuge tubes 1.5mL, 32 pipets 1mL, 5mL tube luria broth, 10mL tube calcium chloride, 4mL tube sterile water, teacher's guide. Perishables include: plasmid DNA, E. coli, and ampicillin).
Note: Perishable materials require a ship date.
