Product Information

Parental generation already crossed for your convenience!
Studying the life cycle of Drosophila and performing genetic crosses just got easier, with our lab activity that includes a safe way to anesthetize the fruit flies. Students use WARD'S unique Thermo-Anesthetizer, a reusable block that immobilizes fruit flies for up to thirty minutes without chemicals, allowing for close examination. In the process students will learn how to anesthetize, sex, and count flies, study their life cycle stages, and analyze the results from monohybrid, dihybrid, and sex-linked crosses. The kit includes the parental stock of three Drosophila crosses and a wild-type culture, plus materials for extracting and staining salivary gland chromosomes. All you need to supply is a stereomicroscope.
Note: Coupon included for perishable materials. Redeem by mail, fax, phone, or e-mail. You will need approximately two weeks to develop Drosophila crosses.
